JAMES MESNARD

Partner

James Mesnard graduated with distinction from the Virginia Military Institute in 1975. He was then an infantry officer in the U.S. Army for six years. After leaving active duty Mr. Mesnard attended the University of Maryland School of Law graduating in 1985 with distinction. He was the attorney advisor for the Chief Administrative Law Judge at the U. S. Department of Labor in 1985 and 1986. In this capacity Mr. Mesnard assisted administrative law judges in  writing decisions in contested cases.


Mr. Mesnard joined the Washington, D.C. office of Seyfarth Shaw, LLP in 1987 and remained there for over 30 years. Mr. Mesnard joined the Postol Law Firm at its founding in March 2018. Since 1987, Mr. Mesnard has defended employer and insurers in hundreds of cases arising under the Longshore and harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Non-appropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act and the Defense Base Act. Mr. Mesnard has also successfully defended employers in employment discrimination and wrongful termination cases and other civil litigation matters in state and federal courts.


He is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia bars. Mr. Mesnard is also a member of the bars of the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the D.C., Third, Fourth and Ninth Circuits and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Mesnard also presents audio conferences several times each year on disciplining and terminating workers’ compensation claimants and defending workers’ compensation claims.
